Our Approach to Fair Pricing🔒 What is the Fair Use Policy?
EventCatalog is an open source project built to be a self-hosted, transparent, and developer-first tool — no per-seat billing, no unexpected overages, no vendor lock-in. To keep things simple, sustainable, and fair for everyone, we apply a fair use policy to some of our pricing tiers.
💡 Why Fair Use?
Rather than enforce strict technical limits, we trust our users to choose the plan that best reflects the scale and value they're getting from EventCatalog. We use organization size (number of active users) and company stage (ARR) as soft guidelines to help determine which tier is appropriate.

👥 What counts as an "active user"?
An active user (or organization member) is someone who regularly accesses your EventCatalog instance to create, manage, or collaborate on documentation.
We define fair use based on typical team sizes:
- Starter: Up to 20 users, under €1M ARR
- Scale: Up to 50 users, under €5M ARR
- Enterprise: 50+ users, regulated environments, or advanced needs
🤝 What if we grow beyond our plan?
That's a good thing! 🎉 If your usage consistently exceeds the fair use limits of your plan, we'll reach out to discuss an appropriate upgrade. We won't cut you off or block features — we just ask that you help support the project in proportion to the value you're getting.
