EventCatalog Studio is privacy-first, and your designs stay local by default. Nothing is stored in the cloud.

This means you can import and export your designs, share them with your team and keep them in version control next to your code.

### How to export your diagram[​](#how-to-export-your-diagram "Direct link to How to export your diagram")

Once you are happy with your diagram, you can export it by clicking the `Actions` then `Save` in the navigation bar.

This will let you choose the name of the file and store it as a `.ecstudio` file on your local machine.

What are .ecstudio files?

EventCatalog Studio uses the `.ecstudio` file format to store your diagrams. This is a standard format for EventCatalog Studio.

To import your diagram, click on the `Actions` then `Open` in the navigation bar or click the `Open Design` on your dashboard.

This will let you load `.ecstudio` files from your local machine into EventCatalog Studio.

Organizations and teams

When you import a design, you can only import designs that are from the same organization or team.
